Smt. Anitha Guha
Founder & Artistic Director, Bharathanjali
Kalaimamani, Acharya Choodamani Smt. Anitha Guha is a globally acclaimed Bharatanatyam Guru and Choreographer, revered for her artistic vision, pedagogic excellence, and enduring contribution to Indian classical dance. As the Founder and Artistic Director of Bharathanjali, she has, for over three decades, shaped generations of dancers with rigour, grace, and a deep commitment to artistic integrity. Under her guidance, Bharathanjali has grown into a premier institution known for its refined training, large-scale dance productions, and its ability to nurture dancers of exceptional calibre.

Initial Years
Her training in Bharatanatyam began under the guidance of her mother, Smt. Karthiyayini Natesan, and was further strengthened through training under Guru Govinda Rajan Pillai. Brief periods of learning under Kalaimamani Radhakrishnan and Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant added further depth to her artistic journey. Her music training under Smt. B. Meenakshi has also played a vital role in shaping the musical sensitivity that marks her choreographic work.

From a young age, Anitha Guha displayed a natural instinct for choreography, stagecraft, and expressive storytelling. As a performer, she essayed striking roles such as Radha, Valli, Mohini, Bhasmasura, Shiva, Ravana, and Urvasi, bringing to them dramatic force and emotional nuance. Her portrayal of Urvasi earned her the Minister’s Award in 1985, an early recognition of her commanding stage presence and artistic promise.

As a Guru & a Choreographer
Driven by a profound desire to pass on the art to the next generation, she founded Bharathanjali in 1989. Since then, she has been a pioneering force in moulding innumerable young dancers to high professional standards, with many of her students going on to become solo performers, teachers, and choreographers in India and abroad. Her contribution as a Guru has been widely celebrated, and she is noted in the source as one of the youngest recipients of the prestigious Acharya Choodamani honour from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. She has also served as the Curator of the Ilamayil Thiramai festival of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha since its inception in 2012.
Recognised by rasikas and critics alike as one of the foremost ballet producers of her generation, Anitha Guha has created a distinctive space for herself through thematic productions of scale and substance. Her work is especially admired for its powerful choreography, strong characterization, disciplined ensemble work, visual richness, dramatic atmosphere, and striking synchronisation of dancers. Rooted in the Puranas, Itihasas, bhakti literature, and classical compositions, her productions have consistently combined tradition with theatrical impact.

She has choreographed and presented over 30 Nritya Natakams across the world, in addition to an extensive solo margam repertoire and numerous arangetrams by her students. Alongside her creative and educational work, she remains deeply committed to service through the arts. She dedicates all her achievements at the lotus feet of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and serves as the Executive Trustee of Bharathanjali Trust, which has for over two decades presented the "Satyam Awards" to distinguished exponents and emerging artistes in the fields of music and dance.
